ലിത്വാനിയയിൽ ജനിച്ചപോളിഷ് വംശജനായ എഴുത്തുകാരനും ,ചിന്തകനും നോബൽ സമ്മാന ജേതാവും ആയിരുന്നു ചെസ് വഫ് മിവോഷ്.(Czesław Miłosz- ജ:30 ജൂൺ1911 –മ: 14 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 2004) .[1][2] രണ്ടാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധക്കാലത്ത് 'ദ് വേൾഡ്" എന്ന 20 കവിതകളുടെ സമാഹാരം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു.
1945 മുതൽ 1951 വരെ മിവോഷ് പോളണ്ട് സർക്കാരിന്റെ സംസ്ക്കാരികവകുപ്പിൽ ഒരു അറ്റാഷെ ആയി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്നു.തുടർന്ന് പാശ്ചാത്യരാജ്യങ്ങളോട് അനുഭാവം കാണിച്ച മിവുഷ് അക്കാലത്ത് ഒട്ടേറെ കൃതികൾക്ക് രൂപം നൽകുകയുണ്ടായി. സ്റ്റാലിനിസം നിശിതമായി വിമർശിയ്ക്കുപ്പെടുന്ന ദ കാപ്റ്റീവ് മൈൻഡ് (1953) രാഷ്ട്രീയ ചിന്തകരുടെ ശ്രദ്ധ പിടിച്ചുപറ്റുകയുണ്ടായി.
1961 മുതൽ 1998 കാലിഫോർണിയ, ബെർക്ക് ലി സർവ്വകലാശാലകളിൽ സ്ലാവിക് ഭാഷകൾക്കായുള്ള വിഭാഗത്തിന്റെ ഒരു പ്രൊഫസ്സറായും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു.[3] 1980 ൽ സാഹിത്യത്തിനുള്ള നോബൽ പുരസ്ക്കാരം ചെസ് വഫ് മിവോഷിനു സമ്മാനിയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
